That IS a very cool display item. I suppose they used ss hose clamps to secure the reels?

No not ss clamps, it has it's own clamps. Not hose. Thanks for asking.

That's a great item you got at a great price, you should fill it with vintage Penn reels.

Funny, I use a similar rig for displays at shows. Thought I invented it, but guess not.

About the Clamps?

Post by Hannibal Mike »

A person could buy reel seats or use hose clamps (cheaper), but what other choices are there for mounting reels onto a bar for display? Something easily released, inexpensive, not marking on the foot. HELP!

If you were using a 1 1/4" or so wooden dowell rod from the local hardware store you could use the 3/4" nylon supports for romex electric wire on one end and a nylon cabel tie on the other end. When done with your display, slide the cabel tie off the end. It's worth a try and cheap!

I was considering dowel rod, but your idea is good. Thanks a ton! Hannibal Mike

After I had given it some thought, a piece of wooden hand rail for stairs might work better. It is a little larger in diameter but already has a flat on one side which might make it work better. Check it out before you make a decision.

Just noticed the 1st photo shows what look like gray rubber crutch tips or ends for stool legs, while the vintage photo appears to show traditional rubber rod butt caps being used for feet.

penn display rack

Post by reeldealer44 »

a way cool item.i once found a newell display rack just like this one and thought it would sell on ebay really well,it sold for a similar price. the penn rack came up on ebay a few years ago and i was going to bid but than i said to my self "where do you display it"it do`s take up a lot of space. so thats why even though it`s rare ,it`s use is limited to those who have the space for it.i wish i could. enjoy it.

Yeah, there are a few differences with this one and the one in the catalog. The rubber feet is one difference, as well as mine was missing the catalog rack the fits on the side. When we are done building the display room, I'll fill it up and take some pics.
