Stumbled over a BIG door stop

Post by Brian F. »

So I don't get to do this very often and thought I'd share some "before" photos. I'm hoping that once I send it off to the North Pole and the elves can revive it a bit, there will be "after" photos  Actually, it's going to much warmer climate where it is looking forward to some pampering at John E's "Spa for Old Reels".

Oh yeah, it's a 14/0 Kovalovsky made of Micarta. Any advice on what looks out of place or missing, please chime in. I know there's a screw missing at the drag control and the spool binds/rubs a bit. Took this photo before I flipped over the knurled drag adjustment wheel too. Unfortunately, or maybe fortunately, it looks like someone coated it with lacquer or some kind of clear coat a long time ago. Maybe the micarta was getting kinda fiber-y(?) and dried out.

Just a step right of the usual Pflueger reels I look for but...I think I'm ok with it. :D

Man, it's about time you turned a biggie over there! Given the history of those islands, there ought to be more, so keep digging, Brian! Nice score!

Hi Brian, I maybe wrong but I beleive the reel's missing a second cylinder like knurled bottom button that's normaly located under the existing free spool. It's hard to tell with the photos provided.

Nick, nice to see you visiting here! This reel uses the lever freespool mechanism instead of the second knob.

Thanks Lou!
