Heddon Dominator 420
Heddon Dominator 420
I can't find the post now, but do I recall that some one was looking for this reel recently? Email me if you're still interested.
You may know this reel
Ron,
John Elder was looking for a parts reel or specific part for a Heddon Dominator. But you may already be familiar with the reel! See his post:

John,
Found a guy who repairs reels and collects Heddons. He may have a part for you.

Okay, sorry for delay. Right then... Dominators. Glad you found the post at Old Paw's, but didn't know that I wrote it or what it said. (My Cntrl + F doesn't work) In any case, Dominator Guys name is Bob Atticks I think; is where.
These reels come up for discussion from time to time. I still have saved a copy of the thread last time it came up on the old ORCA board, but my paste function is busted too, so I can't repost it here.
I also have links to a major thread I started at Allcoast's Tackle Board about Dominators. There was a guy who had one serviced in SoCal , c/o a guy who had spare parts and familiarity with the reels. Other posters had more info on the patent issue, (I think Ed Pritchard from Florida was there too) the Heddon / Daisy thing (Jack Erskine?) and this, courtesy of Amberjack Reels in Arizona. (going to try to stick a pic here of a reel called Daiwa Ventura)
Bad news though... Allcoast's computers went to pieces, and three years of archived posts were lost-- tens of thousands of them. Here is the link anyway.

The patent thing is one that IMHO may have basis in fact, but gone awry in lore. The Heddon Dominator is uncannily like the reel patented by Old Man Penn (Henze) in the late 60's. (don't recall the number offhand... ends with 979 I think) It is not at all unlikely that Penn sold, lent or licensed the design to Heddon, who made the reel for a few years and then gave up. Where Daisy and Daiwa fit in I don't know.
Fin-Nor and their guys Grieste and Zucker weren't really doing anything special at the time, and I find it unlikely that FN had anything at all to do with Heddon. Might be wrong o' course.
(Suggestion... Head over to The Bass Barn, Offshore Forum. Look up a guy named Windmeup... Former Penn Engineer; he might know.)
Gotta run again. I think that is all I know about the Dominators. Except that making reel parts happens to be my job. What part were we talking about again?
Doc.
never mind, it looks the same.[/img]
& PS, I noticed mortepas thread on how to post pics. Great stuff, but my 'puter does not get it. Doesn't work. Links, buttons, click-heres all NG. Sorry.

Dr. Rob: I think you've underestimated the value of that computer of yours if used as an anchor...well past time for the big heave...buy a mac!
Re the info...or attempted info...thanks...sounds like the dominator guy is the only live hook-up, but maybe he can send me on the way to info.
re the part, what I need is the knob that sets the headstock-side clicker to click or not by pulling out and turning 90 degrees one way or the other. It apparently just presses on to a short shaft that is spring-loaded. Depending on whether the knob drops into a groove or not, the shaft will make contact with the spool to generate an incredibly irritating click. this is the same type of set-up you find on the penn 30 and 50 internationals. So, it probably could be fabricated, but might cost more than it's worth to make it happen! Considering how many of these probably came off in the heat of battle, there must be a drawer of them somewhere!
