Steve, the Benson reel you have was patented on 8/31/1920, by Lawrence Benson of Indiana. An ad from 1920 describes the reel as a non-thumbing casting reel. Mailed prepaid, they cost $4.00 , shipped from the Benson-Vaile Co. out of Kokomo, Indiana. Per the ad, the reel takes up 15" of line at each turn. As for the value, they can bring between $75 and $150, depending on condition and the ususal auction influences.
