Post by john elder »

think you made Mr. Caiati's Xmas card list ?! WOW...no wonder it took him since September to write that letter. He must have been curled up on the couch with Websters for months, looking up those big words

I have to admit that although the Reel News was excellent, as usual, the addition of the comics section was a spicy addition! Glad to see that your skin isn't quite so thin and I look forward to ignoring his new book :D

best,

Once again the mags a beauty. I think that guy is a complete --- ----! Any one
so perverse has got to have some kind of disorder for his sake I hope
he recovers from his inadequate personality conflict.

I just found this site and haven't joined ORCA yet but, you have to admit, we're all a little perverse to be in this hobby.

You know what I find amazing...

Post by Reel Geezer »

I find it amazing that all you guys got your Reel News already. I decided not to post the mailing date so that everyone wouldn't get anxious and worry about where their issue was. Instead many of you from all parts of the country seem to have received your Reel News in 3 days. That issue was taken to the Nampa, Idaho post office on Friday morning, and you got it on Monday. Wow!
Maybe it had a bit of extra gas in it...

I also received my copy of The Reel News Monday. Who is Carl Caiati? He is certainly full of himself. Or full of something!I had to look up the review in the back issue. Certainly seems fair to me.

Sorry about that.

Post by Reel Geezer »

Sorry that I forgot to change that on the title page. I set up a template each year, and that happened to be the date. I believe I did get the date correct on the cover and at the bottom of all the pages. I just missed that one. A couple of years ago I forgot to change the date on the bottom of all the right hand pages. Wowser!

I recieved mine on the 4th as well. Love it! Still memorizing the auction reports and Ben's article was very nicely done. Nothing about Zebco in it however I could probably change that. I've been worried that I couldn't write well enough, but no more! Life is an election and we vote with our money. I think I'll not vote for the writer of that letter (and he's actually published?). Talk about being able to aim the scud missle launcher at one's foot with the greatest of precision!

Well done Mr. White!

Well, Well, Well ! Mr. White has finally been exposed!
We all knew that he makes the stuff up that he writes
about and we just cater to him for being so old and forgetful.
Who is this Carl Caiati? I have lived in Broward county
(home of Coral Springs) for thirty years, have fished with,
had rods rerapped by or know the best at their trades, live
within twenty minutes of the IGFA and have never heard of him.
You would think someone as important as he would have their
bust in bronze planted in the entrance of the IGFA hall instead of an old
boat that was owned by Zane Gray. I must admit that the
main product of Coral Springs in EGO and I see that he
has invested his life savings in his. I will say that he impressed
me with his publication of thirty two books. He will publish the
rest as soon as he gets done coloring them. I was outraged
by the fact that he called my buddy an a__hole! At least Phil
has ONE. Mr. Caiati's father had TWO and he named
one of them Carl! Also, I thought Popular Mechanics went
out with high button shoes. Wasn't that a book (or Rag) that
was published for wanna bees and was noted for telling us
yesterdays news? Man, I wish I was so impotent that I could
get my name in there.
Just let this roll off of your back, Phil. We still love ya and
look forward to receiving your disgusting RAG every three
or so months. Keep up the good work.

I've been collecting for over 20 years, rods, reels, lures, and more, and never heard of Mr. Caiati. Yet I have been familiar with Phil for many years, have contacted him for help several times, and he has always responded and helped me.

Mr. Caiati's letter shows his character absolutely, and tells me that I would not want to meet, or talk to him, yet I would love to have a chance to sit down with Phill and pick his brain.

I do know one thing for sure, Mr. Caiati could do the finest book on fishing reels in the world, and I would remember that letter, and thereby his character, and refuse to buy it.

If he would like to do some reseach, he is welcome to come to My place in Ohio, and research our 53 ft long tractor trailer full of reels about 12000 of them that should keep him out of every ones way for a few years, if not the back 24x18 storage barn has another 10000 reels to cataloge and separate! He IS NOT WELCOME IN THE BASEMENT, only serious colectors and humans are allowed in the (rat Hole) Don Champion has been here! I wonder if all his books were printed in IRAN? or is there actualy some hard up printers in our country that would allow the likes of this human to print his mistakes! Posibly he has more monet than brains or is it dead mater between his years? This Caiatis or I will call him a catus brain needs to see a foam rubber factory and wrap himself up in the stuf before he falls and like humty dumpty breaks and spill hiself all over the place and contamenates the earth! Phill, we all know that you are factual and have never had reason to not belive you, Now if the great mr Caitis would like to do legal action against me, Please bring it on! I am very easy to find, ( COL. Milton Lorens 759 Terra Lane Amherst Ohio 44001-1116-07 1-440-988-2251 fax 1-440-985 FISH (3474) email now mr Caiatis just go away ! MRL cc our legal file end

Reel News

Post by Shimanoman »

Hi Swim Jig et al; My curiosity has been piqued;- It sounds as though Mr.C has written a letter which is a classic in the annals of epistles of overgrown self -importance. Not having read the text, I believe it would be worth the subscription fee just to get the issue which contains the bombastic evidence of Mr C's arrogant pomposity. Where do I sign up? To whom do I send money? Regards Shimanoman

There's a whole lot more that's more worthwhile

Post by Brian F. »

You may subscribe (actually, it's part of the ORCA membership) to see the letter for a good laugh, but you'll definitely find that the Reel News has value way beyond that. The Reel News volumes have a whole lot more information on reels than can found in any publication or book. Heck, they're even indexed! (Thank you so much, Phil!).

Thanks SWIM JIG I shall be following ur instructions shortly. I am located in Waverley ,Nova Scotia (Just outside of Halifax). I would really like to attend but This June is out of the question but thanks for the invite. Dr Rob turned me on to ur group when I was trying to find out (with no luck) about an old rod & reel (British) that I acquired some years ago. So far,on the ORCA site ,Penobscot Bill has been able to tell me something about the reel maker,I await, with bated breath, another knowledgeable member's input on the rodmaker(one W.Wright of 376 Strand,London).Thank you again for the advice. I look forward to joining and , being able to read, mark, learn and inwardly digest , the information contained therein . Kind Regards, Shimanoman

Milt & Shimanoman: Anyone who joins ORCA during the year gets all the issues of The Reel News that were published that year. It's only if you join after the 5th issue that you would have to request back issues.
