Isle Royal Kayaking Pictures

Post by Robin Sayler »

Since I just got back from three weeks of kayaking at Isle Royale I have some pictures to share. This was my first solo wilderness trip and I really had a good time.

During the three weeks I saw 6 moose. I didn't see any wolves but I did hear them one night. Other than moose I also saw a number of foxes, loons, and more red squirls scolding me than I thought possible. Heres some pictures of the moose I saw.

This one is a little far away but she's there. Its the little dot in the water in the back. It was swimming across a harbor behind the three loons.

This was my third trip to Isle Royale and one of the things that I like the most is the rements of the old fishing camps. There are a ton of buildings and boats scattered all over the place out there. This boat I ran across in Chippewa Harbor just sitting on the shore where it was abandoned a few decades ago.

And lastly for now the fishing. I did alot of fishing. mostly in lake superior with mixed success but also I portaged my kayak...by myself, it was worth it, into a lake called Lake Whittlsey. I caught quite a few fish in there. Mostly northern pike but also walleye. The first picture is of a nice walleye I caught the first night I was in there. The second picture is from the next day. There were two other kayakers in the lake and I shared fish with them and they shared chicken breasts and rice with me...along with some vodka they hauled in, stricly for medicinal purposes :D .

More to come as I get them uploaded.

Hey Young Guy:

What's the deal? Just get married and have to take a three week solo trip?

You going to take a year sabbatical for your 5 year annivesary?

Technically, we're not quite married yet thats coming up so I can still get away with it :D ...actually she couldn't get off of work and I didn't start yet so I asked the boss permission and she let me go. She wishes she could have gone. I've always wanted to do a wilderness trip alone for an extended amount of time also so it worked out alright.

That sabbatical sounds like fun...but it would never fly, I think that would be pushing it. :D
