Cleaning Corrosion of of Penn's/Ocean City ect.
I noticed alot of reels pop up on eBay with alot of corrosion. Whats the best way to remove it plain and simple.
I use Variations of steel wool, which takes it off but also some crome. I want the Corrosion off and leave the rest alone. What solution can I soak it in?

Reel cleanig ...
Go back to Reel Talk, read topic by Steve399 "pleasant surprise and a question." Check out John Elder's recipe and the results on that reel. Also scroll down "Cleaning and Restoration", tons of info there for the reading.

What he said...but note also that since most all the Penn reels you'll meet are plated, you just can't ever bring them back like you can with nickel-silver. Those rusted beasts can be polished up using the methods that Lynn mentioned and will certainly clean to better and in most cases, be perfectly fishable. however, they will show "brassing" where the salt has burned thru the plating. All you can do is replace with better parts from other parts reels. Back when I felt obligated to try and rescue every jigmaster, Squidder and Penn 9 that came by for cheap, that is what I did. I still have a big box of assorted penn parts from about every reel you can think of (not the early ones, unfortunately). Over time, a big pile of pretty good spare parts turned into a big pile of salt burned parts as I substituted the good for the bad and sent the reels on the way. I will likely part with what I have...sounds like a great thing to load up one or two of those 75 lb or less flat rate boxes!
