On behalf of Jack Bright

Post by AfterMyNap »

Hello all,

I am Cindy, the daughter who lived with Jack. I've come to extend my family's gratitude for the friendships and great joys that you all gave my father.

When our mother passed away he was essentially alone in a relatively new city. He was reluctant at first but I convinced him to try using a computer. His initial attempt included lifting his mouse, pointing it at the screen while clicking, and declaring that it did not work.

At 79 years old he quickly became actively engaged with fishing buddies all over the country and even the world. The highest joys in his life came from communicating with all of you in the comfort of his own robe. He frequently mentioned many of you by name as if he'd just left your living rooms. When the national meets were scheduled he rode on a palpable wave of enthusiasm and anticipation.

Jack was 86 when he died and he left this world with the comfort of knowing that he had many, many treasured friends. For that, we thank each and every one of you.

He truly loved you guys.

Cindy, that was a great message and it brought a tear to my eye. Your dad was one of the neatest guys I ever met, we are all going to miss him.

Welcome Cindy, and thanks for your message. Marilyn and I have several treasures that will remind us always of Jack and his kindness. My greatest regret is that I was never able to convince Jack to fly out here and spend some time in my jet boat fishing for smallmouth bass.

Hello Cindy:

Thank you kindly for sharing with us. And also for giving your dad "computer lessons". Our ORCA Reel Talk forum has introduced countless new friends, and not just to our mutual hobby. Your gift to your dad was also a gift for the readers of this board.

Please know that you are most welcome to join us whenever you wish. And if you would like to share some of your memories of your dad giving you fly fishing lessons, that would be great too. Jack said that he introduced each of his children to this wonderful sport.

Bless you and your family.

Hi Cindy:

Thanks for the post. I am still smiling. I only met your Dad in person once. He was fun to talk to. I bought a book from him years ago for $60. When he saw another one on ebay sell for $200 he had to call me and tell what a good deal he gave me. We both laughed. I'll remember him always.

Still have the book. Always will.

Cindy,

Your Dad was a great guy and I'm glad I got to meet and spend some time with him in person. Like Tom E. writes in his post elsewhere on this forum, I will remember the smile he had on all day after he received that reel from Phil and the image of him kicking back in the shade at the front door to his room. Thank you for sharing him with us.

Cindy, and all who Loved Jack,

My wife and I met Jack at Columbia Lakes TX. When I asked Linda if she wanted to accompany me to an ORCA National her comment was..."I think I could spend a couple of days looking at old reels, but I'm not sure I could spend a couple of days looking at old reel collectors"! Jack changed her mind quickly, and whenever I mentioned Jack after that she would smile. As fellow cigar (and Brandy) nuts, Jack and I kept an easy friendship. I shipped him a couple of my favorite Double Corona's a couple of years ago, and his enthusium was much the same as finding that ever elusive reel hunted for years. Take care, Jack, you will be always in our thoughts as the smoke curls heavenward. Alan Baracco

Hi, Cindy...I imagine your Dad showed you the McBurney article about "Striking Gold with rare tackle" that came out in WNW News...it was all about "the Junkman", terry's name for Jack, and the old lures that he found and brought by for evaluation. I had posted some pics for him to try and sell them a few months back and jack sent me a copy of that article. We had great fun at it, along with producing a few "nekked" lures from beaters that had lost most of their finish...your Dad liked those about as much as any he owned, methinks. We never met in person, but I enjoyed him greatly as a member of my Internet Family.

Cindy:

Carolyn and I will always treasure the time Jack invited the two of us and Dave Erickson to his home for a meal while we were attending the Grand Rapids, Michigan NFLCC Nationals. We had a chance to meet and visit with you also. Jack was so proud of his great reel collection. We also went for a ride with him that evening so he could show us his favorite fishiing stream. Jack was a very special person. When he renewed his ORCA dues each year he would always ask how "sweetie" was doing. That is what he called my wife Carolyn. Both Carolyn and I will treasure our memories of Jack.

Cindy, Jack would be so proud that you contacted us on his behalf, and I'm not surprised at all how admirably you represent him. Like you, he just had a way of making people feel better for knowing him. It helps to know how much ORCA meant to him too. Thank you for sharing that, Jim Madden
