Pflueger 'Capitol' model no. 1989

Post by Dr. Oscar »

Can anyone tell me if there is anything on this reel (marking or part) that would pinpoint when it was manufactured? Thank you. :?:

Date of Manufacture

There really are no markings that indicate when the Capitol 1998 was manufactured since it was made between 1934 to 1960 (from an article published in 1997 Reel News). You can get a better idea by looking at the style of head plate, handle and type of freespool mechanism it has.

If the headplate consists of a nickel plate and hard rubber rim, then it's an earlier version. The later model has a full nickel plate on the face of the headplate. Not sure when they switched but guessing around 1937 or so?

The handle would be a hard rubber door knob shape on the earlier version and a swirled, brown simulated marble torpedo knob on the later one. These seemed to change in 1938 catalog.

The freespool mechanism is a lever on the earlier versions with the first style headplate and a push button on the headplate rim later. These also changed at the same time changes with the style of headplate were made.

Hope this helps.
