:( :!: :?:   :type: Karla, two of your picsare xed out. please atempt to list them again, the handle side came thru, we need the back plate, and frot of reel , does it have a leval wind? is the bearing caps jewled? also tahke a shot from the underside the foot may be some #s there. I ahve a lot of plugers and potages and in my 60 plus years and all my older books ( factory I dont find a reel with that name, My guess is that its posible it was a proto type or a reel that would be made for another company with certain specs and a new name, I do have several reels that are marked gardian made by popular companies of that era. This is what are ORCA Club is about to help others, learn of new finds and share the imformation with all, Bob Miller and Paul Mortison are tru experts in pflugers and george Giger is in charge of the SIG Group, and phil white will get a answere , all those folks are in Pioria ILL for a show , they will be back? Guardian

Post by John Wozney »

I have seen a few of these and the are a little hard to come by.

Check out the past articles on 'Pflueger Pfacts" by ORCA member Bob Millar he covers early Kentucy style Pfluegers in one of his articles and the Guardian is mentioned.

Hi Karla,
This reel was made in the late teens. I think (don't quote me) from 1916 through 1918. It is a hard to find model and desirable amongst us Pflueger Pfolks. It compares very closely to the Buckeye, which is also nickel plated and has the same basic construction. I have been looking for this model since last year's ORCA national. Thanks for sharing the pictures with us. Good find! :-)

Please email me if you have further questions...or if you (eh-hem) would like to trade or sell? :-)

Thank you for your help and i have no problem sharing pictures of reel on this board. I mainly collect lures but if i run accross something that is tougher in the way of reels I have a extremely hard time wanting to let them go, so I guess you could say I collect lures a little bit. I really was not sure about this reel when I purchased it , I looked through all of my books and could not find this reel anywhere so that is why i purchased it plus I believe it is jewel geared and the handle looked to be old style. All i can say is that it is as smooth as a kentucky reel. I have no idea how it will look cleaned up but when i get it cleaned up I will post another picture. By the way I found this reel at a Flea Market in Hot Springs, Arkansas.

What I have found out about the Pfleuger Guardian Thus Far

Post by Karla »

This reel is very hard to find and is pictured in 1916 Pfleuger catalog, the bearing caps are jeweled, it is not german silver, i think nickel plated brass, that is all I have been able to find out thus far, so if you see one of these do not pass it up becasue it is scarce.

Sincerely,

Karla

A nice guardian (I like to think it's nice :D ) is grouped on the month of September of the '04 calendar... it's the jeweled reel somewhat in the center of the shot (to the right of the Kentucky style Norka)...
