Shakespeare Marhoff Model 1910

Post by bassman77 »

Could one of you fellow ORCA members please help me with some information regarding a Shakespeare Marhoff reel by Wm. Shakespeare Jr. Was the 1910 model of the 1964 the first year that these were made?

A ballpark guess on an estimated value of a 9/9 would be apreciated.

I am still looking for Franklin's.

Thanks,

Bassman,

The "first" Marhoff's are not marked Shakespeare but rathet Marhoff Reel Company. When Shakespeare began producing them under their name pre-1910, the reels were marked with a serial number. Your 1910 was the first version with a Model Number (i.e., 1910), but more like the third or fourth version Marhoff.

The value, without the box, is in the $75+ dollar range, give or take an ebay war. I have a 1910, 1912, and a 1910 over-stamped 1912 but it sounds like yours might be nicer than my 1910 - any pics? The Marhoff marhoff, by the way, in 9/9 would be up in the $400+ range cuz they are very tuff!

Len,

I am working on trying to figure out this digital camera. When I get the knack I will post a picture. The serial number is 2539 on the reel.

Mel.

My Marhoff Reel Company is SN 998. I have a couple Shakespeare Marhoffs with just SNs (a 16xx and a 2004) and my 1910s are a 24XX and a 25XX. So somewhere between 2,000 and 2,400 they started adding the "Model 1910". Someday I will get all this down on paper and perhaps we can add your Marhoff to the "known example" list.

Thanks agian for the information. I am reading the instructions for the digital camera as we speak(or whatever we do on the internet).
