2 neat reels to see

Post by Jeff Johnson »

I mostly collect Meisselbach & Pflueger reels. Recently I finally found a handle for my Symploreel 251 ( the finish dosent match exactly, but its close enough for me). I gave both these reels a mild cleaning and oiling today. When I got the 251 reel it had a Shakspeare handle on it and was caked in grease so Im happy to have it looking good for the first time since Ive had it. Just thought Id share a few pics - its been pretty slow on this board for some time. I also just got this nice little buckeye reel on Ebay - but I bought it more for the handle then the reel. I also collect different handle drags and reel attatchements and these small governor drags are tough to find. So this was a really neat find for me - I got the trifecta combo - A Pflueger reel with the Meisselbach handle drag! This is the first one in this size I have come across. Enjoy the pics - Jeff

Jeff, you're sure right about that small Governor handle. It is a really tough item to find. I once had a GS and HR Takapart with that handle on it. It is now in the possession of our worthy Sec-Treas. Roger Schulz.

Phil , Im not sure I could have parted with that reel! Wow! I hope if Roger reads this he will post some pics of that reel. Im sure Im not the only one who would like to see that!
One question though , how did that handle fit the takapart? The takapart handle screws on the round gear post and the governor handles I have seen all have square mounting holes and of course arent threaded. I have not been lucky enough to examine a HR GS takapart yet so it may be different - just curious. Thanks, Jeff
