Blizzard of 2010

Someone is going to blame this weekend's record blizzard on global warming. Bet on it.

Hey, not me, Bob...

Say...how many flat-rate boxes can you scare up? i found a place they could use that snow, but you'll have to deal with Canadian PO!

First let me state I have not been convinced about global warming nor have I rejected the concept.

As for the blizzard doesn't the possibility of the oceans warming mean that they would generate more moisture along the coastal regions thus more snow in those areas.

How come Vancouver is dealing with warmer temperatures and a lack of snow creating problems for the Winter Olympics . Same is true for areas in Maine that have had to cancel their winter carnivals.

Here in central NC we are on track to having the coldest, wetest winter since they started keeping records in 1875.

Two years ago this past summer we had one of the hotest driest summers on record. I think it was the second hottest exceeded by only 1937

YO Slick: The snow in DC and lack of same in Vancouver is strictly due to the El Nino effect, with warming Pacific water carried far to the north. The subtropical jet stream this year (same cause) is cruising along the lower states carrying all the bad storms to that region. Hence the torrential rains in CA. The snow in the mid-Atlantic states is due to cold enough weather there (but not Arctic cold) to create the ideal snow temps. This is coincident with the position of the storm path. Snowy here (Nashville) since the first of the year.
You can use weather to argue either way on global warming, but its just weather, not climate. I for one won't be around long enough to know who is right on this. There are indications that global warming is a fact-but so far I'm not convinced that I am guilty. In terms of even recent climate happenings, even wilder swings have occurred, especially during the Pleistocene. Last of the odd climate things was the warming of Greenland (much warmer than now) about the year 800 that allowed Vikings to raise livestock there (without Brett Favre to help them). And then...The Little Ice Age, starting in 1450 and bye bye Vikings! These events were not caused by me or even the Dekester!
Cheers! And tell Al hello for me if you are in St Croix anytime this winter!

I love the El Nino! Its supposed to be 31 degrees up here today which is 25 degrees warmer than average.

And when that warm air comes north, that cold air has to go somewhere. It should be down there in a day or two. Consider it a gift from your ol' buddy Jason.

Jason,

That cold air will be here by mid week. We have had several days in the 30's . Could have some mid weeks highs around 20 and lows around zero.
But it should not last long. After all 20F. feels good. After below zero highs.
