Things to do or not do today:
1)Don't go to work. Driving puts fossil carbon once in the atmosphere back into the atmosphere. Drive halfway to work if you drive a Prius, then walk the other half, but walk slowly. Breathing hard generates excess carbon.
2)Don't mow the grass. Obvious.
3)Don't drink beer or eat chili. Lots of reasons here, not the least of which is adding methane to atmosphere.
4)Eat by candle light tonight. Not only saves coal-generated energy, but is romantic. If you and another guy share an apartment, forget this one.
5)Don't feed your dog today. No food, no poop, no methane.
6)Talk my daughter into not running in the Music City Marathon Saturday. For that matter, talk the other 35,999 who will run into not running too. Think of the C02 they will generate!
7)If you go fishing, fish close to home (no prob for the Geezer). If the fishing isn't all that good close to home, remember, it is the act of going fishing that matters, not catching fish.
Come up with your own ideas. Al wants your support!

As some of you know, my wife has one of the best collections of Pogo stuff in the world. She has sold hundreds of these posters (they are now all gone), with many going to National Parks, schools, and just interested and concerned people. This Walt Kelly poster is a classic. Despite what Al says, he didn't invent the saying used by Pogo in the poster.
For you youngsters: Pogo was one of the most popular comic strips in the country in the 1950-70 era. If you want to learn more about Pogo and Marilyn's collection just visit http://www.igopogo.com

The Coast Guard report this morning says there is no crude oil leaking from the well, and no evidence that it is about to. There are all sorts of contingency plans built into these operations, so when disaster strikes there are things that can be done to minimize the impact. The real tragedy is the loss of eleven tough guys trying to make a living finding oil for people like me to use.
Unfortunately, oil is rarely where it is easy to drill, in a miserable place nobody cares about, and easy to get to market. As Pogo says, the bad guys aren't the petroleum geologists and engineers and refiners, but all of us on the Interstate (dang, its bad here in Nashville and I am one of them).
Cheers to Prius drivers Deke! We need more hybrids-and guys like me who drive as little as possible even in my little Altima 6 (32 mpg-not as good as a Prius, but not bad!)
