:) 8) :!:   :type: The company as far as we know is still in business, they are now making line counter reels as well as the reg. line. they did sell off a lot of collectable items last year? or first of 2004 ? We still get parts from them, Gander Mountain stores still carry their reels, W.L. Baumler a wholesale dist. Still has PENN listed, however in this fast pace business , they may well renamed the company or joined with someone else. They have not advertised in the fishing taclke retalier mag. for quite awhile. hope others can give a more positive answere. You may want to contact (DEB Johnson editor for the (Fishing tacle Retailer at 1-334-551-2363 or email at or PO box 17151 Montgomery AL. 36141 she knows when someone in the businness blinks! Col. Penn reels

Post by ak-fish »

Penn was bought out by Master in January 2003. They are still very much in business. Many of their reels are now being made abroad and they just raised their parts prices considerably. For example, in December 2002, the left side plate for a Penn 49 cost $6.25; now it costs $35. Really.

A married couple from North Carolina and a left coast partner purchased Penn about a year ago. As far asI know it is still in business, but many changes are in the works.
