Here are a couple. The first one is all Hendryx (at least the ones that got cleaned and made it to the cabinet). The second one is a mixed bag but mostly Union Hardware. The bottom shelves seem to be where the ones that need to be worked on or cleaned make it. Then there is the boxes of stuff that (probably like most people) I'll get to when I can. Enjoy!

Union Hardware? I didn't know they made reels. I'll have to ask father about this. That was one of his companies.

Not sure about a display in Albany or not. Will post better Union Hardware pictures tomorrow for those who may be interested.

I'm certain it's Union Hardware. He would have been in charge of manufacturing during the '60s and 70's. Were they still making reels then?

If I remember correctly, the factory was in Torrington, Conn.

Reels

Post by Big Lou »

Thanks Brian,I will learn someday. I have really enjoyed seeing everyones
toys.
What is it about reels that gets a hold of us?
Almost like a disease, once the fever hits, there is no turning back. Only mild intermitten calms which almost always is followed by new urges for more medicine. LOL And each new pill (reel) only last till it is cleaned or another pill more desirable shows up.
Is there no cure? How about reels anonymous?

I'm going to post a few pictures from my tackle room, these were taken a few years ago. They show mostly the displays of reels and etc. I didn't include many of the lure cases and etc.

Jeff - VERY NICE! I particularly like the Gucci reels! You really do have a lot of very nice stuff. See a few Hendryx in there I'd like to have also!

Sorry guys, this is my post above and I only meant it as a joke, No intent to offend whatsoever. The collections I saw on this thread just really blew me away and Merv's hoard was a stand out, something that I really enjoyed seeing. Thanks for sharing your "sick" collections and please know that the comment was made innocently.

CJ, nah - no offense taken and thanks for following up. They gave me the little robot that goes off with "Danger, Will Robinson, Danger" (if you remember Lost in Space) so guest messages poking fun without a familiar ID always raise a red flag. Oh and by the way, I noticed a little twitch in you when you said "reel collection" too - I'd monitor it, could be that "sickness"

How to ID a Reel Geezer - He doesn't know any of those names you two are talking about. However, I do remember that my kids had a lost in space robot. I guess that means that I'm about the same age as your fathers.

All you guys have GREAT collections! I just bought a digital camera and hope to take some pictures of my affliction too... With all the reels you have and others not seen, it's a wonder we can still find ones to fill the holes in our own collections. Makes you wonder of the vast amounts of reels out there yet to be discovered for our enjoyment. Thank goodness we all don't collect the same thing, otherwise prices would really be skyrocketting!
Hey Harvey,
If you ever want to get rid of your "china cabinet" us Notherners could use something of that nature. TIGHT LINES to all.

Reel display

One nice way to display your reel collection is in the maker's floor safe.

Nice display, Warren, and conveniently secure! Very creative. Guess that's a handful to cart to the National for an exhibit!
