Google Analytics - Pop-ups!
Any computer geniuses out there? I keep getting Google Analytics screens popping up and re-directing my screen to ads. It's a regular P-I-the-A$$.
How can I kill it?

Sounds anoying. Malwarebytes is geared toward detecting spyware and has cleaned up some pretty nasty bugs for me. it might be worth a try.

Hello Rick,
This is just a hunch, but if you are using the same computer for everything, it might have something to do with your Weebly website. Weebly uses Google AdSense, so it could be that you enabled the AdSense code on your own site. Apparently AdSense and Google Analytics are integrated. It's probably not the problem, but since there's a connection, it might be worth looking into.
BTW, I'm still chugging along on the 1753 reel research, and really appreciate the great work you've put into it so far. Maybe I would have been better off to have put " finding 1753 reel info" on my Christmas wish list, because I asked Santa for a couple of other things, and she said no!
Merry Christmas - David

Thanks David...you might have turned over the rock hiding the critter.
Yer right about the integration of those two. I never thought of it being hidden in Weebly. What a pain! I'm surprised that more folks aren't having the same issue, since "trending web activity" is the latest thing. I'll run it down to the local Geek Squad as see if they have a fix.
I to, am still digging on the 1753 Reel. I'm beginning to think that the Commodore was a "prankster".

Hmmmm? I Accidentally bumped into a post on the Web, which addresses GoogleAnalytics issues and IE8 (which I'm running). IE 8 came out with what is called "In Private Filtering". The implication was that, the default mode is "OFF" and if you turn it "ON", the GoogleAnalytics functions are Blocked. It is now ON.
So far so good...I'll give it a few days. That'd be to simple
YEP...to simple...still getting the pop-ups...Unless I enable "In Private Filtering" evrytime I open the web. That does seem to block it.

Ew. haha. Do you think IE slows your computer down too? I switch from IE to Mozilla Firefox but then Firefox screwed my computer up and slowed it down more so now I am running Google Chrome and love it.
but back to google analytics. I found this.. if you need help with it just ask cause I can read it fine (in geek language).

Zack...I tried that yesterday. Windows 7 won't let ya modify the "hosts" file. You can open it via notepad, you can paste that line into it, but you can't save it.
So far it seems that "In private Filtering" seems to work. The only draw-back is that every time you open Internet Explorer, you have to enable that option. (the default is OFF). So, short of finding a way to keep it turned ON...I just gotta remember to enable it each time I get on the Net.
You'd think these companies would 'Get A Clue". We're their lifeline. Irritate the customer and yer gonna lose business! That's a hint Google!
I hope this thread helps someone else.

What the he-- language are you guys speaking? Only two words I have understood so far are Google and Mac. Is Mac kin to Google? Isn't Google's first name Barney? I hear those names a lot.
The apparent secret to no popups is never surf.
Merry (politically correct) Holidays! Remember, Boxing Day is Sunday, same as the start of Kwanza. When is Viva Zapata Day?
Bad Bob

My 2 cents:
Try this link for a solution that might work:

I read that if this is being caused because of a virus, it may not just be in the computer but possibly in the router too.
I use Google Analytics for a business website to see how many people look at the pages, how long they dwell and approximately where they are located. I've never heard of this problem before. Sometimes Analytics is used to monitor "conversions" such as when somebody goes to buy something because they were directed by a certain web page. The problem you have may have nothing to do with Analytics so much. The popups may be the symptom of a virus, using content from the web pages you have visited.
Good luck
