Reels built into rod handles . . .

Post by Len Sawisch »

I am discontinuing my interest in "built-in" reels. These eight will need new homes. Some are common, some aren't. If you are interested in any of these, let me know and we can start a 'dialogue' (he he he).

Left - Right or Top - Bottom

1. Stream Liner (inexpensive version)
2. Gentlemen Stream Liner
3. ? (Honest, I usta know . . .)
4. Hurd
5. Hurd
6. Rife
7. Kerreel (Dayton Ohio)
8. Benson (Kaufman Co Wis)

Thanks for looking! Questions, comments and/or interesting observations appreciated.

Bill nailed it. Patented in 1929 by Jack Welch, no less.

Bill & Steve,

Thank you both - True Temper does ring the bell, but I had no idea about the Jack Welch connection. It is a well-built combo - aluminum with German silver screws and adjustment caps - it's a shame it doesn't spark the same flame for me that it use to . . .

Len, go back to your Winter 1998 issue of the Reel News. Jim Music wrote a well illustrated article about this reel/rod.

Thanks Geez!

Just dug it up - also found the 2000 Winter issue with the Stream Liner article - I guess I was just a decade out of step . . .
