Pflueger Akron No. 1895
Pflueger Akron No. 1895
I recently found an older Pflueger reel that I inherited. It is a No. 1895 and seems to be in great condition. I just have some questions on maintenance of the reel, and how it works. Basically, I am wondering about the little knob on the handle side of the reel. It has an arrow, and says "on". What exactly does this do? I would like to use the reel, but I want to make sure it works correctly first.
sgtnohr,
I have one and do use it for bass fishing every so often. Not my favorite reel to use but it works great.I've gotten used to the ther Pflueger reels with a narrower spool.
The knob on the right side that is marked "on off" with an arrow pointing toward the front of the reel is a spool tensioner.
There is a spring type arm of metal with a felt plug in the end of it that touches the inside of the spool. The knob presses against this springy metal and pushes the felt harder into the spool. That gives the spool less free spin when the knob is in the "on" position. When in the "off" pos the felt rides away from the spool thus lessening the tension on the spool during a cast.
