How do I fix the foot on my reel

Post by orourke »

I have seen reels that have been drilled and riveted and the foot repair is quite obvious. Can anyone tell me how to repair an existing foot or attach a new one and have it look reasonably correct.

Maybe not very helpful, but ideally it should be repaired using the same method used to make it to begin with: Brazing, soldering, riveting, screwing, machining... All of which require a greater or lesser degree of competence within each area. DIY-jobs by almost-got-it-right folks are often worse than the broken embodiment.

If you have a broken reel, please tell us more- maybe somebody here knows a trick.

Or if you're still not sure, ask a pro. Soldering or brazing? Ask a silversmith, they do it all day. Perfectly. Screwing? Ask a machine shop; they do little else.

Did that help?

Reel Foot

What kind of reel is it ? what is wrong with the foot ? The other day someone was trying to repair the holes in the foot of a #33, but maybe he didn't understand that some of these reels had holes in the foot. 8)
