Post by Bruce Davis »

Having trouble finding info on these two reels found a Mitchell 408G but its in a cardboard box not wood pres box like shows in Wrights Price Guide but does show serial no 106. with gold plating.
Next picked up a Scientific anglers 50th Anniversary Serial no 0362 wood box systim 5 so far talking to a couple of fly reel guys they say this is regular Hardy worth about a 150 but in Lawsons its listed for quite a bit more just wondering if Lawsons a misprint thanks for any help

Dennis Robert- "Mitchell Cllectors Reference Guide" lists it as super rare. Page #181. Produced by Mitchell for Bass Pro Shops in the 80's. Picture of reel has wooden box next to it. Less than 1000 reels made. Only an educated guess...that the first ones were shipped in the wooden box and later ones shipped in cardboard. Probably due to manufacture costs. I know of other reels they made that follow the same logic. Could be a crown jewel for your collection or someone else's...Of course condition determines the final value for any reel. Nice find!

:D 8) :!: :?:   :type: Bruce, according to ben Wrights book the The Wright price guide fo the reel man Third edition 2002, page 179, ( its called the Mitchell Sports 408g ultra -lite, gold lettering handle and bail wood presentation box serial numbered year made 1987, and a * for price that means not enough sold or traded to esablish a price also RARE! I read that in Bens book somwhere! Ben HELP! also ( other reels and lures that had woden boxes ended up in cardboard boxes, because either they ran out or Someone wanted that box! A dealer in Berlin ohio explained that to me! As for your Scientific Angler SYS.5 50th aniversary (FLY ,Gold, Wood Box, sn. and only 1000 made NIB $795.00 according to stu Lawsons 3rd edition price guide to o ld fishing reels! 2001 seems as if your friends awnt to buy it? My advise if you dont need the money KEEp IT FOR several years! If its paid for it (and you dont have to feed it , its better than ebay stock. also just because its gold plated DONT polish it! that gold is thin, I learned that the hard way on a couple of Pflugers! Your ohio conection Col. milton lorens aka SWIM JIG
