another Pflueger question

Post by tommydog »

Did Pflueger sell leather reel cases for their saltwater reels ? I have never seen one on ebay, nor have I seen it mentioned anywhere. This kind of implies no. Just like to run this past the board. Maybe anybody has some info on this.
Also, have there been generic cases for sale back in the old days, like the aftermarket stuff you can buy today?

thanks for any insights

Tom: the quickest way to get an answer is for me to offer myself up for correction. I can't recall any leather cases for Pflueger reels...I think anything that was used was after-market, which was not a unique thing of today..they had lots of extra adds back then.

The Atlapacs, depending on age, came in a black hard-case...some pressed paper material...then in metal boxes..I think metal came after, rather than before...Brian or Paul or Bad Bob or a host of others can chime in on this.

John's correct and I don't remember any leather cases either. Other than the typical green or maroon boxes, the only unusual container I can think of was Pflueger's Redifor which came in a "clam shell" box.

The only "official" leather case that I have ever seen for Pflueger reels (big-game or not) was made and stamped for the early 1573 Supreme. I believe these leather cases were available to purchase as an optional item, and not included with the initial reel package.

Supposedly the super-early super-rare (1904-190x) model Pflueger Akron, Kentucky, etc... came in fancy black leather cases, but I have never seen one personally.

So no, I have never seen or heard of any Pflueger leather big-game reel cases. Although, Pflueger has done stranger things in the past. So we will probably never know for sure.

thank you all for your shares on this one. So, for display purposes I can use generic leather cases, which are a another challenge finding.

thanks
