Karla: Not sure what didn't get answered here. The foot has been cut...problem often was that the new rod wouldn't accept the old reel seat, so you just hacked it til it fit. I could give a squat...it's a natural part of these old reels' history. However, the more picky among us don't care for that abuse.

The middle bearing cover has been filed to try and make it a screw...as the other fellow said, good luck! My Meek/Hortons have no slot and that one looks crude enough to have been put in "after market".

If there were other needs, other than a needy buyer, let us know. if i wasn't so cheeep, I'd pick it up for the parts, at least, but I already have that one in pretty good condition!

I already understand on the reel foot that is why i edited the original message today. The response i got was that they had never seen the slit before which does not always mean that it was not made that way. I was just trying to get a yes or no, thats all.

Likely Not

Karla,
You may never get a yes or no as how I see it. If you've shown this reel both here and on Joe's for the last few days or weeks and you've not had one person say "yes, they were made that way also", I'm inclined to think the end cap was not made that way. That's a lot of well informed people looking it over.

The only way you might get a definite answer is to find it pictured in a catalog. Lacking that, even if someone were to say it was made that way, you'd still have to convince the person you are selling it to (to borrow from Joe K's earlier post!).

I would never try to sell the idea that the reel came that way unless i found out that it did. I think i am just going to put it up for auction for the parts and give the facts in the description. the reel still works very good and it could make someones day who has one that is missing a part. I apprecaite all of the help from everybody on this board.
