Hello all I just started collecting vintage fishing lures about 3 years ago an came across this B.C. Milam no.4 reel. Im looking to sell it but wanna know what the reels value is first? Ive looked all over the internet an havent seen a milam no. 4 reel like this yet. Can someone please help me with an appraisal? Thanks.
It sort of helps except for 2 things, first there is no serial number on my reel, which means i think its a earlier one, an second if you notice from your picture an my picture the reel handle are in different spots? I talked to tom greene an he said that with no serial number its a earlier made reel? will that up the value at all?
1883 is when they started the ser# which would make it a early one but as far as value I don't feel it helps it a lot on the BC Milam reels. Its will hold its own with or without the ser #. The 6 oclock handle is not as common as the 12 oclock which might help some.
good luck on that one...a winner, fer shur. I guess on the early reels, maybe the 6 o'clock handle was less common, but in general, 12 o'clock handle will bring premium, MHO
the whole kicker of it is that I went to this estate sale yesterday an was digging around in the garage for a hour, found this reel in a small tackle box with a couple of lead weights. asked how much an he said 1 dollar! I had no idea at the time what is was worth? never even heard of B.C Milam before went home an did some research on the internet an dam near dropped dead when I saw some of his other reels sell for thousands.
