WANTED: I need a replacement handle for Ocean City Long Key reel and also a spool. Let me know what you have for sale. Thank you.

ah, yes...the infamous Melting Handle! I feel your pain! Re the spool, you'll need to give some measurements. The long key came in several sizes!

John, I neglected to include dimensions for the Ocean City Long Key spool. Here they are:

Approximately
3- 7/8" Spool width
3- 3/4" Spool diameter

I purchased reel with a wooden handle, that is not exactly the best looking

so I need to replace it.

Any help is appreciated and I am always looking to buy Big Game Ocean City reels 4/0 to 16/0

Well, Gov, we've had a running series of threads and discussions about these reels and handles. When you're feeling bored, you might have a look at this thread and a couple sited in the thread. Jeff Johnson's great pics of his long keys are still up, so the diversity can be seen:

I figured that you had one of the football-shaped plastic handles like this one on a Lost Soul reel I have at the moment:

This one appears to be the same size as the one you have and I'd sell it to you for parts, but it may not have any better plating than yours.

Do you have the regular shaped wooden grasp or do you have the "watermelon-shaped" grasp with the metal stem? (pics in Jeff's posts, if you don't know what I mean). We should be able to turn a replacement in either case, given the measurements.

Heys guys, I was away for a few days, I checked the board and noticed someone had posted info to sell Ocean City and Hofe reels. He had his email posted, but now the message is gone...what happened? I was ready to contact the guy, but apparently he vanished. any info?

John, how much do you want for the parts reel? my spool is much better than that one. perhaps I can use the side plates, etc. for a future reel
re-furbishing project. who knows, I guess if the price is right.

That was ...Ed Pritchard. He is likely on his way or already in Louisville for the nflcc Nationals, so might have taken it down because of that. Just email him...he'll get the message and get back to you, I'm sure. Email sent re the Long Key!
