Old boat to use old reels out of...

Post by stevenm »

Found this little 74 seastar online for 600 bucks with 15hp evinrude that started on first pull. Figured it would be a good compliment to my old reels. :-)
First things first...some new paint!

The aluminum finish on bottom is brushed aluminum paint...not untreated metal.

Nice job! Looks really great. I always appreciate a good boat restoration.

Like the web site, too!

Look for a vintage Pflueger trolling motor to go with it. They were big into those back in the 60s, 70s. Nice boat!

Thanks for all the kind words!
Got her flipped back over today so i can start on the inside. Honestly, she can hit the water now...but i'm going to throw a few "luxury" items in her first.

those old aluminum boats were pretty bullet-proof and I'm guessing your spiffy paint job makes her look better than she ever did. It's pretty similar to a boat my uncle Gene had...amazingly light for it's size...I had a fiberglass one, which you normally think of as being pretty light stuff...but the same size boat was probably at least double the weight as the Al one!

Steve...First nice choice of color! Sharp looking craft, very nice. BUT...the best part of those pictures, is hidden in the background. Those pics show me A LOT of work and care on your part. I see wadded-up tape from masking, used spray cans, cardboard used for blocking over-spray. And from what I can see...you were only half done at the time.

THAT shows me the pride and excitement taking over as she was comin' together. KUDDOs brother!

Thank you sirs. :-)
John, this boat is super light. If it wasn't so awkwardly shaped, i could probably put it on my shoulder.
Rick, i did a lot of masking, lol.
i went through 2 rolls of blue tape and half a box of white packing paper trying to keep everything over-spray free.
