Bob Baird

Post by Don Champion »

I just read on Joe's that Bob Baird has passed away. While I never met the gentleman I understand he was very talented and well respected. He may have been at the Colarado national but I didn't meet him.

Bob was a keeper and way too young to go... at my age...63... I,ve been thinking a lot more about fishing since i heard the news.

Here are a few pictures of Bob at his bench ...

Bob was a master craftsman. Not just with rods, reels, lures and creels ...Bob was one of the world's foremost art glass restoration specialists and did work for collectors, museums, chapels, cathedrals ...you name it.

A Vietnam vet and a cancer survivor ...most importantly, Bob was a great guy ...I could talk to him for hours and when it was over it seemed like minutes.

Don, I never met him either ...but consider him a good friend ...one that I will forever miss and think of whenever I look at the lure he made that hangs in my case.

He was a remarkable craftsman and from all accounts a great guy. He was also the inspiration for a reel that Jeff Hatton, Michael Hackney, and myself designed and are working on. I am very sad he will not be around to see it when it is done...
