My latest field find is a brass Dam Effzett 495 fly reel. Looks like most others I have seen, except it has a knurled head thumb screw holding the handle on. Others I have seen had slotted screws. Is this something special or just a later model?
never seen one with anything but a slotted handle screw.
sounds like the thumbscrew is from a rotating plate (spool) fly reel.
There honestly is no reason to have a removeable thumbscrew on that reel handle.
Curious, did you get this reel from the UK?
