Olympic #83

Post by confederatemule »

I have recently acquired an Olympic #83. It seems to be in good condition, except, the reel handle is broken. It was in a box with other stuff that I gave $5.00 for. I did not look the reel over separately and did not even know what brand it was nor that the handle had been patched, until after I got it to my house.
I said all of that to ask if any one might know where I can purchase an original handle for this Olympic #83? I might as well go ahead and say that I don't want to spend much money.
Although, I want to be able to use the reel.
In my search I have discovered that it was sold in the 1960's, possibly. Since I am asking for help, I'll go ahead and ask if there are any links that will give a history, and maybe, pictures, of this model reel?

Thanks for any help.

Mule...Your reel was made by Olympic-Ueno Seiko Co. LTD. Tokyo Japan. It's a Japanese knock-off of a French made Centaure Pacific. It holds nominal value ($30-$50) / Excellant in the box with papers. For the price, you did fine. Keep an eye out on eBay for a parts reel, in order to get that broken handle replacement. These are "users" and not truly collector material. Oh and there isn't much out there in relation to Olympic "history", so tracking down a specific mfg. date is gonna be tuff. - Hope that Helps a Bit -

Rick, this reel is fr from being a collectors item. I just want to use it. I can use it, as it is, but, I am afraid someone's patch job may not hold against a good fish.
The handle does not have to be an original, as long as it will screw on to the handle shaft and as long as it is the right length for proper leverage, when reeling in a monster Large Mouth Bass :D .

Thanks for the reply. I will watch on eBay.
