This is not a racial club. We don't classify reels by names like Latno, Collerd, Japonknees or what ever interesting spelling you want to use.

I am not a racist collector ... most of my reels are Collerd.

Oh by the way, I don't have any Latno reels. No disrespect intended. Believe me as a Bronson collector I can't disrespect anyone's collecting preference.

OOPS...Brain fart. Likely has something to do with the chatter over that new aquisition of yours. The one that "...works fine". By the end of the day Abu may be making Taico reels...

Bassman, Merv B. "Reelman" has a pic of one on his web, Latno was a trade mark for Cullum & Boren, out of Dallas, TX, some of them came in reel tins, made by Kalamazoo, (and we also know that Bronson made some! ) he has a Latno Silver Lake Mod.37 with the tin, and he also has an empty tin for a Latno No.150 Mod.41, that he needs to fill? and for me, so far I have only seen two! and I don't know those guys above me!

First of all, sorry Bassman for messing up your post! now these are all prewar reels! Shakepeare owned Kalamazoo, this one on Ebay was made by Shakespeare, it has those beautiful bell shaped maroon and pearl marbled crank knobs, which came out in 1940, they used those on the South Bend No.2500, which were also made by Shakespeare, we know that Bronson made some too, I believe all these Latno reels were made between 1936 and up to half way through 1942, when all production was stopped, ( my 1942 SB catalog shows! ) and factories switched over to making war supplies! Cullum & Boren was a fairly large Sporting Good Co. not to much history out there that I could find? seems like they sold more guns, than fishing tackle, so they did buy from we'll say 3 different reel companies, I did see that they sold out to Oshmans Sporting Goods in 2000, and I still do not know what LATNO stands for? Hope I did not confuse you more? :)

OK Boys, Here you go. LATNO stands for Louisiana, Arkansas,Texas,NewMexico, Oklahoma. LATNO was the house brand for Cullem& Boren (originally Borendo!) out of Dallas. They were great sporting goods stores dating back to the 1920s or before. I bought my first pair of white with blue stripes Adidas at one of their stores in Fort Worth in the late 1960s. What a treat it was to go to those stores. They were THE stores until Academy and the BIG BOX stores came along.

They sold a complete line of House brand tackle including reels, parts kits, oil and almost anything you could think of. Generally low-end stuff made by other tackle companies. Re-read the history of the Gulf Reel for a C&B connection.

They sold several different reel models in both screw top cans and cardboard boxes.

As always, have fun. Colby

My dad took me to the downtown Dallas Cullem and Boren when I was about 6 years old in 1953 to buy my first rod and reel. He purcased a Shakespeare Closed faced spinning Wondereel and a Shakespeare rod. I also got a small tackle box with 4 or 5 lures in their boxes
and a great beginning for my love of fishing and collecting.

Thanks for all of your information, but I am still looking to purchase a LATNO reel.

I think Ellis has one of every reel known to mankind. And he has the odacity to tell me I have too many reels?
