WTB *** 2 Meek #33 parts reels *** WTB

Post by ghstrydr164 »

I have a limited budget of $20.00 + shipping.

The Meek #33, I purchased At auction has a back plate that will not unscrew. It turns clockwise and counterclockwise but the rear cap does not un-thread from the tube, that's why I am looking for a way to trade parts to get a usable-able reel that can be properly lubricated and cleaned when fishing.

Cyrus...are we talking about the reel you won from the ORCA auction a couple auctions back? Can't imagine how I missed all those flaws!

Only one flaw, John, the rest of the reel looks great and functions right. The back turns in both directions (with great effort) without un-screwing from the tube.

If the back plate cannot be removed then the spool cannot be removed and the tube becomes useless for building a parts reel. At that point the only parts that are usable are the front plate, handle and foot The reel cannot be dissembled to clean and properly lubricate the clicker without removing the back plate.

If you did not attempt to remove the back plate then missing the problem would have been easy.

Yes, this is the reel I purchased from the ORCA auction.

Anyway John I don't expect you to eat the cost of the reel and I am not returning it for that reason.

I was attempting to get some parts to build a usable reel, but I think that is way to much to invest in the reel. At this point I'll just keep it as a parts reel. I just picked up one from a seller that did not sell on ebay for the same price, delivered. It is the later model built by Horton.

Thanks for the offer.

You need to return it to me if it's not working properly. I will either return your money or give you another reel to replace that one. I certainly did not intend any misrepresentation and we need to fix this.

note: A replacement reel is in the mail today...just keep the other one for parts.

John, I received the reel yesterday. I recognize it as one of the two reels you purchased from the last ORCA benefit auction with a replacement handle.

I thank you for your reel,
Cyrus

Cyrus,

I had one that did the same thing. After I had boogered up the knarling on the rim I took a chisel and placed it flat along the spool housing and gave it a whack. It popped the side plate back onto the threads and unscrewed easily. You might as well try it because the reel won't be much good the way it is.

Well I'll be damn, worked like a charm. I had turned that back plate more then one full turn in both directions with out it beginning to unscrew. I put the tube in a leather padded vise and used a piece of soft wood to tap the lip of the back plate at four quadrant's away from the tube. I reversed the reel in the padded vise and tapped the tube at the foot support with the soft wood about quarter turn and it began to unscrew very easily, works perfectly now.

Thanks Bill

Now all I have to do is return John's Reel to him.
