Jim...michael sinclairs book heddon, the rod with the fighting heart has about all you'd need to know about fly rods. His rod restoration book also has lots of fly rod dating info and can be had for cheaper. Casting reels may be more problematic but you can get a lot of info from the old catalogues. I don't have the former book... He may have a section on casting rods there. I'll try to find out.

Two good books with lots of info. and history on Heddon as shown. A lot of times you can find them at used book sellers at a lot less than retail.

I like this, and it is free. But this may not be what you are looking for.

Jim,
You can contact me for information any time you please. I've been researching/collecting Heddon rods for over 15 years and have the luxory of owning copies or originals of every Heddon catalog from 1908 to about 1965, with several from 1967-1985. Michael Sinclair has been a good friend of mine for years. Several years ago I purchased from him all the research material that he used to write the Heddon book (which, though out of print and hard to find, is the best reference ever written on Heddon bamboo). Any member should feel free to contact me at any time. It's my pleasure to be able to help.
