FS: Henshall-Van Antwerp Reel ... SOLD ...

This second model Henshall-Van Antwerp is in outsanding physical and operating condition. This reel is very unusual in that it is quite possibly the only known Henshall reel with free spool, rather than his patented adjustable drag. It is also unusual in that both switches (one for the free spool and one for the click) are on the front rim. After looking at countless pictures of Henshall reels, I cannot find any examples with both switches on the front rim.

The lower switch, which on most other examples would operate the drag, is the free spool switch. The upper switch operates the click.

A scarce reel with a rare (quite possibly one-of-a-kind) variation. Having serial number 158, this is an early example.

What is the genesis of the name of the reel? I obviously know about Dr. Henshall, but what about the Van Antwerp?
