Alcedo OCEANIC

Post by aquadave »

My dad came across a box of stuff at a garage sale. He's a lefty, so he gave me the stuff that he couldn't use. In it was this monster of a reel- an Alcedo Oceanic. Where the bail/ spool? attaches to the housing is broken, but everything else works great. There is a little bag of the broken parts. I took it to the local rod and reel repair shop. The owner told me some of the history of Alcedo, but was only familiar with the micron reels. He couldn't fix it, he said maybe a machine shop could replicate the broken piece, as it looks like I've got all of it. I've looked up as much as I can find, but most of the info is about the microns. Does anybody know anything about these reels? I don't collect reels, I just use them- I kayak fish the flats of west Florida (now this I know something about!) but I'm not a collector. I can send pictures if needed.
Thanks,
Dave

Hey, I can post a picture here!
Sorry, I'm a newbie and didn't know this. Here's a link showing the broken part.

:D 8) :!: :?:   :type: Dave acording to Ben Wrights book the wright price guide, you have a wosser! reel is a 1955 era, and if it was not broke and all paint was good ie. a 10 reel well he list at $500.00 on page 40 of his book. ( now as for the part, I would think another alcedo part will work, as you have all the parts even the broke part that will make it easy to match up. also some of the alcedos had left hand threads so be very carful, in other words you turn left to tighten and right to lossen. Its well worth fixing, they are (SWEET reels to use) they do require to be cleaned and lightly oiled. Also does your dad have the box and paper work for the reel? send me a exact tracing of the broken part , we may have it! Col.
