Daiwa SS5000 question

I was recently given two Daiwa reels marked SS5000. The spool and base of the handle have some pretty heiroglyphic engravings. I was told they were bought in 1977. I wondered if anyone could give me any information about these reels. Should I be fishing with them or do they need to be cleaned up and put in a collection? They are in good to excellent condition right now. Thanks for any inputs.
