That DAM goat

Post by Ron Mc »

So what's with that?

Anybody know the story of the DAM goat? I just picked up a spare spool with the goat on the spool box cover.

Thanks !

OK, I'll post the answer - the good folks at DAM came up with it for me.

Dear Ron

The story behind the goat ist he name of the founder of DAM:

His name was Fritz Ziegenspeck !

And Ziege / Ziegen means goat / goats in English and so he has choosen this
animal as a kind of company symbol in the beginning.

Moreover nowadays our lures are still named after the initials of Mr. Fritz
Ziegenspeck: FZ or Effzett !

Then, a few years after World War II. the goat logo disappeared more and
more, but it´s spirit is still alive !

Best regards,

Sven

In correspondence with several collectors from Europe, I have learned that there are several Meisselbach reels (mostly Experts and Amateurs) that have the goat stamped on them. They also appear in DAM catalogs from the teens or twenties.
