#71 Olympic reel

:o  :!: :?:   :type: Having check my factory repair books I cannot find this baitcaster listed, I do see it Listed in Lawsons 3rd edition price guide on reels page 121 ( #71 bait caster Leval wind Black Plastic 8/9 condition $12.00) as you have the box and your description as new never used, ie no line on it etc It will be worth a bit more, (my guess only not sum certain and if I were selling it $25.00 as long as box is good and posible you still have the paperwork that may have come with it) My thoughts? keep it as It can only go up in value in a few years. Rod i cannot help you with. Col. Milton Lorens aka SWIM JIG your Ohio conection

Sakurai rod

Yours is one of the zillions of rods made in post-WW II Japan for the export market. They're not collectible and won't be in our lifetimes. Most were made of inferior components but if yours is still solid the fish will never know the difference. On any given day you can find 15 or 20 on ebay, usually packaged as combination fly and casting combos packed in wooden boxes. One vet posted that he'd bought one while in the service for something like $3.50 .
