Thank you to all ORCA veterans
Thank you to all ORCA veterans
I was 8 years too young for the Vietnam draft. But I was raised by a father who was a combat-wounded, retired Army officer and I spent a lot of time among men from the Greatest Generation.
Thanks and Godspeed to all who served their country on this Veteran's Day.
If any ORCAns who are veterans would identify themselves by screen name and dates of service, it would be appreciated
Thanks
Mike

I echo Mike N's sentiments. I always endeavor to never take for granted the freedom I enjoy everyday.
Thank you very much to the many active military personnel and veterans who have made it possible.

Re: Thank you to all ORCA veterans
My father was born in 1915 and after landing on Omaha Beach and fighting across France as an infantry platoon leader, he came home on a hospital ship following the Battle of the Bulge. Like most veterans in our small town the "War" was seldom spoken of and never bragged about. I enlisted after graduating from college in 1966 and after OCS was sent as a second Lieutenant (trained as an artillery forward observer) to the First Infantry Division in Vietnam. As another Vietnam veteran said to me once, " I would not take $10,000 for the experience, but I would not do it again for $1,000,000"

Re: Thank you to all ORCA veterans
I was fortunate enough to be allowed to finish my college degrees due to my major, and thus the Korean War ended just as I was called up for active duty in 1957. I then only served for a year, but was put on reserve for the next 6 years. I had an interesting year in the Army teaching kids who wanted to join but couldn't pass the qualifying tests. Kids who couldn't even read were taught to read and do simple math problems in a couple of weeks. It sure beat the nasty stuff going on in Korea, our forgotten war.

US Army Draftee 1969-71. OV-1 Mohawk Crew Chief. 131st Aviation Company, Phu Bai, Vietnam.
I rarely talk about it except with fellow vets. That said, I wouldn't trade the experience for anything in the world, but there's nothing that could make me do it again.

Re: Thank you to all ORCA veterans
I just came across this message. I also think it is good to honor vets from the past, and present. I was in the USN active duty 1981-1985. I come from a long family line of vets. My son is active duty Army right now.
