Anyway, the Bronson version has the duo-lock handle nut and the improved drive gear bridge, so I'm guessing the timing is about right. The reel is nice and crisp, with one tight but turning handle knob.
Next is the Notangle Freespool made by Shakespeare on what I believe is a Criterion body. Serial number 455, so I'm guessing this is the oldest of the three. Note the back plate has just three pillar screws and one pillar post. This free spool screams (I keep playing with it) but the rim lever drag doesn't seem to be dragging. Click works good.
Third is the same Shakespeare model EE but serial number 1651. Back plate has four pillar screws so I guess it may be a model year newer that the 455 (?). I really can't tell if the drag is working right on this one or not, but it isn't anywhere as fast in freespool as the 455. Click is strong.
And then there is the box and paperwork. Neither Carl nor I know if this is for the 455 or the 1651, so I am not saying! The four page brochure talks about the Notangle feature that Lou F. Eppinger appears to have owned (though no mention of Lou in Dr. V's patent book). I believe the free spool mechanism is worth someone taking apart and writing about - I just don't have the time, cuz as I already said, I am helping Carl . . .

Carl's preference is to sell these as a set, but ultimately they need a new home, so any interest/offer will be considered. PM me or post here. Carl isn't online at this time.
PS On January 12 in Lansing, MI, the bulk of Carl's collection will be auctioned.
