Bronson Parts Kits

Post by Dale Noll »

Have 4 Bronson Parts repair kits that have all kind of parts mixed up. Would like to get the right parts into the right slots. Need to have parts lists with drawings and numbers. Many of the parts have same name but different sizes. Some Coxe parts are also mixed in. I have one 4 page Parts List brochure with 12 Coxe Saltwater and 21 Bronson fresh water reels listed with schematics. However, many part numbers marked on the box lids are not listed or shown in these schematics. Looking at the ORCA Library lists, I cannot determine which, if any of these files will give me the info needed. Any suggestions? Thanks.

:)  :!: :?:  Dale, these will be elusive as so many interchange with Bronson, you might givr Dave O rourke 207 S. Matteson St Bronson MICH 49028 a email at (, that is his #1 collecting area he is also in the ORCA directory, I may see him sat at the show in motpiler ohio. Also if anyone has factory pages < try Bill sponsky in ELMORA PA he has a ad in the ORCA mag under Sponskys reel repair. I am very limited on these pages. If you have ever placed other parts in those boxes , you are aware that most companies changed the #s more often than I change the line on my reels! Mitchel and shaimano are the worst for this then OKUMA etc. Check with the OLD FOX Harvy Garision he ran the liabrary for years and most likly knows just what buttons to push,( you reading this Harvy? Try and its only a idea GOOGLE .com they may have it lised , or put a want on EBAY never know whom may have some factory books. Col. M. Lorens aka SWIM JIG in OHIOS Unsettled weather, or

There is a guy in Bronson by the name of Butch Borgert. He retired a few years ago and got into reel repair. He has a ton of schematics. Goes by the name of R & S Reel Repair, 216 S. Matteson Lake Road, Bronson, Michigan 49028 or phone 517-369-1417.

Dave, Milt,

Thanks for the help. I will keep working on these Kits. Also have a Metal Shakespeare Kit marked 3762C Assortment Kit. This Kit has the parts listed inside the top cover, but it is so tattered and torn, that the part numbers are not readable. Have also seen Kits on eBay for Ocean City and South Bend.

Many times I use parts from old reels, but using parts from Kits with proper identification provides for correctness in repairs.

Maybe a small thesis on this subject might be of interest to other ORCA members. Others must have these Kits and don't know where the parts fit. Wonder if anyone has written a pamplet or made a Report on Reel Parts Kits.

parts kits and more parts kits!

Post by SWIM JIG »

:D 8) :) :!: :?:  Dale I am about to (drive you up the walls)! i am listing kits we have starting with BRONSON, these are plastic acitate boxes, they just say BRONSON REEL REPAIR PATRS No # just parts #s listed on the lidshave seven of these, Pfluger green kits 10 in long 3 in wide 1in thick #4359,4360, 4369, 4362, Shakespere these are SPIN CAST in cardboard boxes red and BLUE 3375, 3373A and3740. then a brown metal shakespere box sug. arrangement No. 3725 repair parts assortment in no 3728 box, have 2 of these, and a green box with a slaip latch like a pfluger however all shakespere parts No # are 10&1/2 by 10&3/4 by 1in. Now langly, 7 plastic kits 4x8x1inch ,1 810 kit now it gets complicated , 2 kits marked 810, 820, 850, another kit for the 900. next is Bronson, same size boxes same color plastic see thru, have 6 of these only parts #s no reel #s, then a COXE salt water kit just parts #s and same type of boxanother Coxe box no reel # just parts #s, now south bend kits these are these are 8/1/2 by 4/ 1&1/2 in. and a paper lable for No. CRA-6, one Horrocks- Ibbotson co. Utica 2 new york # 2200. next is 2 OCEAN CITY Kits 7 in by 3&1/2 by 1&1/2 fresh water 790, and ocean city kit with paper lable also for KIT-1, now the reason I have listed this imfo is to show that unless each part is marked with a # or leter it will be next to imposible to place a part in its corective slots or spaces, If you have a part you know is correct, and several others that duplicate that part, you may well be totaly correct in placeing them in that slotor cubical, Example in case a COXE leval wind worm and a BRONSO are the same if you place them side by side, same for the pawl, shakespere parts will replace some pfluger and south bend, Ok throw the rocks people I can lay them out and there is NO DIFFERANCE! ocean City and some Bronson and True temper will interchange, ( again No Fraud is intended only to make the reel work again!) Dale its my thoughts that you will wear yourself out on a job that is next to imposible to compleate. I corprate manager for Pfluger retired < told me they found it more profitableto sub out parts work than do it in house, ie Srew machines , handle making etc. as for threads , get a good thread gauge from the turn of 1900 thru 2000, yes those can be different measure the pitch etc as for other parts get a good accurate Micrometer and take measurments, Do you belive these reel campanies plated their own reels? HMMM! dont bet on it. Now rest easy as your sorting may never be compleated, If the part fits same mesurmentsand same metal ie brass to brass then us it . Col. Miltoon Lorens aka SWIM JIG or

Milt:

Thanks for info. I' heading for Amherst the next time in Ohio. I gotta see your setup. Somehow, these kits must be organizable. Since these Kits are an offshoot of vintage reel mfg like Boxes, somewhere there should be a bio.

Other Kit owners must be out there, as I have seen many Kits on eBay. Does anybody else have Kits to add to those mentioned here so far?

Dale.

Would like to change title from Bronson Repair Kits to: Reel Repair Kits - General, but don't know how to do this. Webmaster, is there a way to do?
Thank you.

Post by SWIM JIG »

:D 8) :) :!: :?:  Dale, as a old mountain saying to their friends the latch string is out! I woyld like a idea when as I do go fishing etc ahhh retirment is GOOD! Brig your picture taking machine , a note pad etc, I will let you explore the (RAT HOLE) The Holy Mackreral Tackle Show is in April 2005 I will send you a FLIER! Remind me to make copies of parts number change overs, ie shakesper and south bend etc, this is where things can get confusing! An if you want a wild one work with ZEBCO! they realy confuse the parts books!and then you got Lanly ZEBCO, and well a person can accumulate several head aches! Our method is simple if the parts the same demensions then use it! I have parts envelopes with as many as 7 diferent parts #s on them, same part just a updated #. time is money and labor isnt cheap! so to re mark all those envelopes No reels would get fixed! Ok again the latch string is out to you! your Ohio conection at 57 degrees today Col. M. Lorens aka SWIM JIG ice out 12 days! WHEEE!
