Jack & Milt: I have nothing to do with where ORCA holds their conventions. The person in charge of that area is ORCA VP Bill Muth.
However, I should mention that for many years ORCA held an “annual meeting” at the NFLCC national meet. The last thing that I would like to see ORCA do is revert back to relegating themselves to an add-on of the NFLCC. In my opinion the ORCA National Convention is far ahead of the NFLCC swap meet and there is no comparison between the two.

Hi Phil-- I agree 100% not to share space with NFLCC, however being
that there are an additional 1000 or so tackle enthusiasts in the area at
that time, might it not increase interest in our hobby and garner a few
new members ? Just a thought, will be seeing Bill Muth this week-end
perhaps we will discuss same. . . .Adious

Im not sure that increasing ORCA membership should be that high of a Prioity. We already have a good sized group. A well organized event by those who accept the responsability is most important. If we look just at geography or a tie-in with NFLCC, we could be missing out.
Im in favor of an ANNUAL Mini convention once a yr, like in Florida in Feb. Ive heard there is a Worlds Shakespeare collection there. Maybe some Florida ORCA's could arrange a field trip to Ft L. Florida has 44 members if my count is right. Should be enough to put on a good Mini.

HMMMMM!!!

ORCA Nat`l. `06
As I said: "agree 100% NOT to share space w/ NFLCC" but an opportunity
to utilize the interest their convention will create, realize they have about
4 times the membership. . . .food for thought.

Over a several-year period before the Raystown convention, some people went to a lot of effort to divorce ORCA from the NFLCC nationals at last. Reassociating with the lure club, regardless of the convenience, would be a bad idea, and ORCA would regain its image of being nothing more than a "branch" of that group.

Objections!
Let me count the ways!
Going back to having our Yearly Convention coincide with the NFLCC National would be like kissing your sister. Some of us complained for years to make the break-away move and now Someone suggesting that we return to old habits. They should be dealt with using drastic measures . How about using the said individual for the target in the “Ugly Reel Toss” contest? Maybe we could make him do all the dishes after the “Breakfast With the Board of Directors”? How about making him responsible for taking “Bert” for his trip to do his duty while we are in Houston? As for regional shows, I am sure that anyone could get a nod of the head from the ORCA officers if they wanted to promote and put a show together anytime. Lets face it, we will never have a membership that would compare with the NRA or AARP so we should just be satisfied with what we can muster. Sure, maybe a co-hosted show between us and lure collectors would be to that benefit of gaining more members but we have a very healthy and vibrant club anyway and we should just work harder at maintaining our current membership and letting non-members know about us.
That’s my stump and I am setting on it!

You must relize, Carl, that we had to vote on you two times befor we would consider you a "Rookie" member!
You can attend all the lure shows you want but you said the prime words in your statement. BUYIN" & SELLIN"! What a relief it was to go to Rochester (My first Convention) and be surrounded with people that all knew more than me, would share that information freely and not try to get you to morgage the house to take something off their hands! As for our room trading, What a lay back social event! Everyone doesn't rush from room to room to be the first to get that rare, yellow with purple spots "StumpKnocker" before someone else does. If we see a nice Horton reel, we will tell Bill Muth or if it is an earky Shakespeare, we would tell Joe or Me or others that have an interest in something that you might think they can use. If it is South Bend, Len or Jim. Get my drift? That is what seperates us from the collecting masses. We all seem to be the type that don't care if the Jone's are ahead or not. Sure, some spend a lot of money for somethings nice but there isn't a grudge held just because Joe Blow got it and I didn't. I have never seen in any way an air of "I got More Then You" attiude amoung we as reel collectors. We all seem to be friends. That is what is so great about you guys and the members of ORCA as a whole. That is what our Convention is all about. Putting faces with nicknames and being able to act as one and maybe learn something for a few days a year and bring home memorys for the next 360.
