Find the location of 97 Fulton St., once the center of the reelmaking universe.
(Hint: the actual location is obscured by tall buildings, but you can see part of the block it's on.)

Straight up the street toward the Brooklyn Bridge, the building with the candy-striped awnings

Never been to NYC but pretty sure it was here: https://www.google.com/maps/@40.709631, ... m8bn4w!2e0
Steve,
Was it where 150 Market is now, is 95 actually the Subway entrance? And..., is that where you Luddites have lunch and converse with your phones?

Re: Pop quiz
Close enough, Tom, but the fun is in finding it on that link in the original post.
Looking east, you can see the Brooklyn Bridge.

Fulton St. bends a couple of blocks from the river.

Although the arrow shows the approximate location of Ed Vom Hofe's shop, Conroy and Crook had been within a block well before Ed got there, and even U.S. Net & Twine would later show up within a couple of blocks. And those are just the major players.

The real key to finding these places is to make sure that the lot numbering hasn't changed at some point. Addresses in Brooklyn are really tough to trace, as street names changed, districts merged, etc. Manhattan seems more stable. Fair St. became Fulton St. at some point, but that was pretty early. 97 is now located between William and Gold Sts. In 1849, F.G. Ford, a turner, was located at "90 Fulton-St. between William & Gold, N.Y." So that's the block where 97 was. Conroy and Crook were a bit closer to the river.

Re: Pop quiz
Steve,
I actually did zoom in with the gigapan and located it just as you boxed it, after I cheated a little with googlemaps so I at least had some type of an idea which direction it was from the WTC. Never being there makes it a little challenging. You guys are nuts, I have no idea how you can find anything the way those streets helter skelter around here and there in just about every direction. I'd be stuck down there in the "jungle" and never find my way back out here to civilization, where the "Buffalo Roam".

And a few Oahe Walleyes..Yummm

Smart AleckDo they use rationally laid-out streets like these?

Who wants to be awake that early?...from ground or lake level, we can also see the sun rise.
Sunlight hits many Manhattan streets for a few minutes on many days of the year.

HA, I can see my house and the streets I grew up on in Steve's pictures. New York is great, 10 million people can't be wrong.
