Well in all respect the fish has better odds by being snagged at (which is only legal a short season there ) than dangling a live minnow at it like we do other species and or throwing a drag net out that indiscriminately catches all fish ,Turtles, Porpoises, sharks, etc.john elder wrote:I just don't get that one...such a rare and unusual beast and the LEGALLY go out and get them by snagging!
I agree though it is a Rare catch but I suspect it is a small one in respect to whats really out there still on those .
We have Talipia in some of our warmer reservoirs here in Texas and it is legal to net ,stab, snag, grab, throw a rock at or spear any time and bout the only way to catch the critters since they don't eat nuttin but moss and doo doo.

Catch and Release may prove a bit less rewarding for the fish.

In Illinois it is legal to snag salmon in the fall when they're running upstream. They're going to die soon anyway.
