Pointless quiz
Pointless quiz
A few astronomical trivia questions. Any ORCANs know the answers? Don't be foolish and Google them.
1) What is a Julian Year?
2) What two planets have a retrograde rotation (rotate on their axis in opposite direction from all others)?
3) What is unusual about Polaris?
Partially correct answers invalid. Wild guesses welcome, however!
As stated, no point in this. Just bored. An empty promise of a reel sometime in the the future somewhere to the first with the correct answers.

Re: Pointless quiz
First two correct, but oddball way to answer. Meets the spirit of the quiz, however. Anyone for a try at question three?

Polaris, a very popular Model Dodge Car also emits high band electromagnetic activity
Re: Pointless quiz
Was that Dodge actually popular? A Charger maybe, but a Polaris?

Re: Pointless quiz
The Charger did not come out until 1966. In reality the Polaris (sp) / Polara 500 (500 cu.in.)was quite the sought after model to own back then.

Re: Pointless quiz
It was actually called Polara and equivalent to the Plymouth Sport Fury, only one step above. It was the model for and replaced, in the big block lineup, by the Charger. Was that Dodge actually popular?
I like Henry's answer (s)

Re: Pointless quiz
The answer to number three really is interesting. Rarely will anyone know it. I sure didn't until recently even though my minor was physics-astronomy. I forgot most of what I learned I am sure. For that matter, forgot most everything else!

Re: Pointless quiz
I always thought it was that it appeared to be stationary in the sky, but that seems too obvious.

Re: Pointless quiz
The first Three Fireman followed it back when or at least I think they were Firemen cause the good book says they came from a far.
Re: Pointless quiz
Ok-Enough nonsense. Polaris (the "North Star") is generally present in the sky near the north pole-but rarely directly over it due to the precession of Earth's axis (and another couple of factors as no bodies in the universe stay put for long). But the unusual thing is that it is not a star. It is three star system, one of those assigned math problems that led me to almost change majors. Never understood much anyhow once I got past intro astronomy!
Now you guys are among the very few who know the secret life of Polaris.
Cheers for foolishness! BB
