I had a fellow contact me a couple weeks back asking for help with two reels. One was an Airex, which I took care of, and the other was unknown to me and sent him in Milton's direction. I asked if he knew about ORCA and he didn't. I gave him the contact information and asked him for his mailing address. I had a past issue of the REEL NEWS, that had just been surgically removed from me, and I sent it to this fellow. Needless to say he was very pleased and indicated that he was interested in joining. I'm not saying we should give up all our past issue's, but taking that extra step sometimes helps. Bob Halver----->THE AIREX GUY
As a new member of ORCA (about a month) I can give one opinion of why I joined. I have been a member of the NFLCC for 14 years, and only collected lures. Most of the people I met in the collecting field who were a) genuinely nice and b) genuinely interested in the history of fishing tackle (I am a professor of history so this is a big one) were reel collectors. It took me awhile but I am now starting to collect reels. I'm sure that reel collecting has its ups and downs, and bad guys and good guys, but I am getting awfully tired of the "$$$" attitude of many lure collectors I know. And reproductions and fakes are killing the lure collecting hobby, and at least with reels it isn't so bad (yet).
Just one man's opinion. I hope more people join ORCA, but that's my story.
Bob, You need to contact Roger, explained what you done, and see if he wont send you a repalcement! also have him send you some application Blanks, and if you get a 5 year membership I belive there are some (Bonus) items that go with it! also I belve it averages the old rate that way of $25.00 and you dont have to wory about renewing evey year! remeber you now have the means to make copies! Dr, if you think lures can be worked over you are very correct! I will stick with the reels, they are very easy to see if its a fraud! I would like to extend my personal thanks for your membership, The imformation is next to imposible to replace as we have some very fin contributors in the ORCA MAG. and also on this board! Reel colecting in my thoughts is very addictive WELCOME to us( REEL NUTS) Your Ohio conection Col. M. Lorens aka SWIM JIG
Dr. Todd: Welcome to ORCA and Reel Talk. We hope you enjoy yourself and stay a while. If you have any questions post them up here. We have many good researchers and historians just waiting to help.

Howdy Todd,
Welcome to the club. I've always looked for your contributions to the old Anglers Online message board and Joe's board. Hope you find our little world of reels just as interesting.
Has anyone else tried this? Everytime I sell a reel on ebay I enclose an ORCA application with the reel when I ship it. Been doing this for two years now. I understand there are a few who have joined up through this.
Don C.
I appreciate the warm welcome. I am conducting some very detailed and (hopefully) interesting research on early American fishing tackle, and I'm sure I will be bombarding you all with requests for information and begging you to read early drafts--I'm a big believer in the theory that the more people who read your work early on the better the end product.
Like I mentioned earlier, my personal reason for joining ORCA was that I felt the ORCA members were on a whole far more interested in the history of fishing and tackle than the lure collectors, who seem almost obsessed with dollar signs. I know for a fact I am not the only one in the NFLCC to think like this; it wouldn't take much to encourage others to join ORCA.
By the way, does anyone have Bob Miller's email address (of Pflueger Pfacts fame)? I had emailed him before when he cited some research I had found on early Pflueger history, but I lost it when I switched computers. I discovered the exact date of the founding of E.A. Pflueger Co. and the names of the financial backers and thought he'd like to know.
Bobs email is and his smail mail address is ( ROBERT a mILLER 709 Templeton Dr. Nashville Tn.37205-1211, bob also wrote a very nice book on the enterprise-pfluger reels with patn. drawings etc. a book well worth adding to your manuscrips of you are going to collect Pflugers. Seems as if you are now REELED in to REEL colecting , as you recive your ORCA mag the articles will make you more informed ! Glad to Be of Help Col.
