Fishin' with the Platt boys and old equipment

My son Scott and I had a fun day of fishing last Monday (6-23-14). Spent the afternoon and evening at Indian Lake (Poosey Conservation Area), Missouri. Using all pre-1940 equipment, Scott was even using a nice Heddon bamboo rod with his Pflueger Supreme reel.

A full cloud covered sky made for good surface fishing conditions.


Warren's best catch - - 20 inches, 3 lbs


Scott's best was 21+ inches and right on at 4lbs.

Fishing with one's father or son is always a GREAT time, whether the fish are biting or not!

Oh, and by the way, is that lip gripper & sonar pre 40's too? Smile Warren, no backlash photos, so you did real/reel good!

Speaking of which, does anyone have a copy of the ORCA antique tackle fishing contest rules from previous Nationals?

You got me! I always just clamped the lower jaw with my thumb up until Gibby Gibson gave that gripper to me after I told him one of my horror stories about having to push a hook through my thumb to cut off the barb. Gibby told me it was the best and he was correct. Also, my daughter gave me a depth finder three years ago and we turn it on to make sure we aren't surface fishing in 40 foot of water. I'm going to have to write these "old age handicaps" into our rules before some of the young guys get after me.
As for the back lashes, there is always a few - just part of the fun of using this old equipment!
