I'm in training

Post by Jim Schottenham »

The first time I spoke to my good friend Larry Moellman was over the phone after a Lang's auction. As a result of that call, Larry had a mental picture of me as a little old man, and was really surprised when we met at the ORCA Nationals in Dowagiac, to see I was just a "young pup". So, at least in one persons eyes, I'm a "Geezer in Training". That's OK, these results will show I could not be in better company! :D

OLD WHAT??

Post by SWIM JIG »

:D :) :o 8)  :!: :?:  OLD what? what you say< oLD heck I was to old for the civil war draft! You young whiipersnappers dont know about old , my first time thing was a sun dial , My first reel was made from a OX cart wheel and the line was made from FLAX, I used lures made of eating plates and hooks made from a broken pitchfork! or was that when we speared the things? Now you young wippersnapers use reels the size of a spiing wheel bobin, man made line and factory made hooks, fancy lures and still coulnt catch a fish out of the HEADON POND at Diawajiac! now its time to count back wards and become a young wipersnaper again AHHHH, live is good! Dave you old ? heck they probly use a sponge to get you dry behind the ears! ha ha ho Col. Milton Lorens aka SWIM JIG in the OHIO state YUP a state not a territory anymore! WHEW! I am glad that this poll didn't require you to provide a picture. You guys can take after your wife and lie about your age. I had to laugh about Larry's impression of Jim. Ask Dave, 'The Youngin'", O'Rourke what I said to him in Lansing! It is funny when you paint a mental picture of someone and once you meet them you find out you know nothing about art. Heck, I had Len pictured as being six feet tall and Steve Vernon as good looking guy! (That came from the picture in his book that must have been taken in the 40's)

What constitutes "old"? "Geezer" I don't mind, "old" I may take exception to.

I am young, 58! Leaving for Florida tomorrow, and eventually the DAYTONA show! I am playing my son's Jimmy Buffet CDs, so I have to be young! Well teaching high school students for 31 years, kept me young. I have been retired for 6 years, I really feel older! Hell, people collect lures that are not as old as me! IT IS A STATE OF MIND!

58 and retired for 6 years! Thought teachers were supposed to be underpaid. How can you afford to retire. I'll be working till I'm 75.

Ohio has a very good retirement program!
It should be 20 years and out, not 30. When I graduated from high school, I told myself I wanted to retire before I was 60, I beat the heck out of that!

WOW!!!

Post by SWIM JIG »

:D :o  8)  :!: :?: Steve, most kids today are superb on Computors , however if we dont start signing up these (KIDS) we are going to be just a bunch of OLD folks trading the same OLD REELS between ourselfs < its OUR job to help these youngsters to start collecting or acumulating to build for their future as Social Security will become a thing of the past! We hold our Nationals when school is still in sesion, WHY? I cant make it this year As FROGY JIG graduates this year and I wont mis that for anything, Now lets look at reality, Todays KIDS have more disposible income 2 can afford the nice items3 understand computors4 have inherited their faimly antiques or colections that now get sold at TAG sales , auctions or flea markets including ebays flea market, People! I have apprised a few of these inheritances, including for banks, attorneys and estate probates, whee, what a loss ! These Kids as we call them need our guidance, and will go out of their way to learn! The words OLD REEL COLECTORS to mean that the reels we collect are OLD not the collectors! Now, lets make it a point to sign up some of this youth! the rewards will out weigh the bad, 2 keep kids out of trouble3 teach them values in life4 you will have made some nice frienships along the way! and Happy birthday BEN, the best is yet to come!
