Old Penn Newport reel wanted

I need a Penn Newport reel for the box I have. The box has a picture of the reel on the front so it is probably circa 1930s and it says 150 YDS. on the box.

That is a tall order. The Model 32 Newport was made from 1935 to 1941. it is not an easy find. Finding the box is even harder. There were two different boxes in the lifespan of the Newport model, yours is the early box, which means this is the reel that belongs in the box:



The key to placing the right Newport in the box is that you find a reel with a hex head handle screw and a round head head plate spool bearing. That narrows your search to a Newport made in 1935 or 1936 for the reel to be correct for the box you have. Good Luck.

It does sound like a very difficult reel to find that matches the box. Thanks for all the info. I guess I can do some horse trading. What is that box worth if it is in very good condition?

Hard to put a value on the box. If it were mine and I wanted to sell it, I would put it on EBay with a $29.95 starting bid, no reserve, write a comprehensive historical story about its history in the description and let the chips fall with they may. But, that is me.

Okay thanks Mike. That sounds like good advise to me. I sure like that box. I am going to have to dig thru the garage and see if I can find that Newport reel that I thought I had. I also had a Penn Coronado that I misplaced. It sucks getting old.
