Southbend Left hander

Just got a Southbend 550F at an auction that was really in need of fixin. The lead screw and line guide are missing as well as the nob which hold the leadscrew in position. The drag nob is also missing. I have never had a Lefthander before, but before I get started, does anyone know if the righthand parts will work in a leftee? Can I use a regular 550 for these parts?

I think they will but you have to be standing on the other side of the table when you put it back together!

Dale, I covered the SB lefties in the Reel News, September-2004. You must have just missed it. The parts you mention are interchangeable, but if the drag knob is missing, the anti-back-lash lever part and spring inside have to be missing also. That lever and the spring are specific to lefties. My article shows (with pictures) a way to convert those to lefty parts from a regular #550 so that it will work for lefthanders. If you don't have a way to come up with the article, I'd be glad to email you the directions. Jim

Jim can you send me a copy of that artical? I have misplaced my issue, so for now its LOST somewhere in (THE RAT HOLE!) may not find it form a long time!
