- - - - a day that will live in infamy
That was 73 years ago. One has to wonder what would happen in this day and age if we were attacked by a far eastern country. Would we be able to mobilize the nation to produce the goods needed to fight a war of that scale? Very doubtful since the buildings and machinery no longer exist. Would we increase our orders from China even if they were the ones attacking us? It may not seem likely now but it only takes the will of a very few to affect the lives of many. Even if that were possible would seventy five percent of the males between 16 and 35 line up at the recruiting offices?

Don. the primary reason that no other country has attempted to attack the U.S. on our soil is the thousands of hunters and gun owners. The hunting community of our country outnumbers our Military strength by numbers. Of course we don't have the high tech armament but our enemy knows that they will be confronted at every step by the unknown, the folks that aren't constrained by a president, a general, or conventions. We will protect our families and lands by any means necessary. Of course a military stance would require mobilization but a hunter behind every tree does not have massive needs. I am sure that there will be patriots that rally but I actually look forward to fighting the net war on my terms rather than be bound by the diplomatic idiosyncrasies of politicians. "We the People" combine to be the largest and fiercest fighting force know to mankind.

I don't think a "hunter behind every tree" would be the kind of war we'd be waging. I would hope this country would mobilize like that past generation did, but I have serious doubts. In either case, we might be finding out sooner than one thinks.

I hear what you are saying but what past war have we been involved in because our soil was in jeopardy? We get involved in everyone else's issues in the name of freedom and our people die and suffer. I might have to take Don's side if it is another instance of stepping up and signing up to die for someone else's cause.

Realizing that this could very easily turn into a political discussion, I will refrain from any comments. At a very early age I learned," The way to be seen is to stand up! The way to be heard is to speak up! The way to be appreciated is to shut up!" Not really sure who taught me that? Probably someone who thought I couldn't keep my mouth shut!! Understand the right of everyone to express their own views.

And you spoke up?
A veteran is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable 'To My Country' for an amount "up to and including my life." That is Honor, and there are way too many people in this country who no longer understand it.

Sound like something my parents said, along with "speak when you're spoken to", to an only boy who thought he always had to have the last word.At a very early age I learned," The way to be seen is to stand up! The way to be heard is to speak up! The way to be appreciated is to shut up!" Not really sure who taught me that? Probably someone who thought I couldn't keep my mouth shut!!
